Internship Guidelines

Objective:

The objective of the internship program is to provide students with applicable educational experiences that enhance their academic qualifications and prepare them for post-graduation employment. Employers should expect to identify motivated and qualified interns who meet their hiring needs, with the potential for full-time employment. 

Prerequisites:

Undergraduate students must be classified as either juniors or seniors in the CIS major and must be in good academic standing. Graduate students must be enrolled in the MSDAIS program and in good academic standing. 

Review and Approval of the Internships:

Students must apply for internships and have them reviewed and approved by the faculty internship coordinator before registering for the internship class. 

Types of Internships:

Internship positions must be paid positions, either full-time or part-time. 

Internship Requirements:

  • Students must participate in the internship according to the guidelines provided by the supervising company.
  • Students must fulfill a minimum of 8 weeks/150 job hours for summer internships or 10 weeks/150 job hours for fall or spring internships.
  • The internship must add to the intern’s academic and experiential benefits.

Internship Deliverables and Due Periods

  • Work Log: A bi-weekly work log indicating the date, hours worked, and main activities performed, submitted to the internship coordinator on the 1st and 15th day of each month of the internship. Due: 1st and 15th day of each month of the internship.
  • Final Report: A written final report reflects on the internship experience. Due: by the last class day of the semester.
  • Supervisor Evaluation: An evaluation completed by a responsible management-level individual in the firm, preferably the intern's supervisor, indicating the successful completion of internship requirements. Due: by the last class day of the semester.

Grade Evaluation:

Grades for the internship courses will be pass/fail. Students who fail to complete the internship or meet the agreed-upon guidelines, as determined by the coordinating faculty member, the student will receive a grade of fail.
